Gardening Notes

Have had to delay getting stuff planted out this year as the weather has been pretty rotten just lately. The winds have finally decided to go elsewhere so have been able to get on with seed planting. Cold frame now bursting with seed trays: courgettes, broad beans, borlotti beans, lupins, hollyhocks and calendula.
Sweet peas have been sown outside in a pot where they will flower later on this summer. Tomato plants are still residing on a 'sunny' window sill indoors. Still awaiting delivery of new herb plants that will be planted out in pots on the decking.
Also decided to re-open the back gate: hacked back the privet that had grown over it. Pruned the lilac and elder tree. Trimmed laurel and weigelia hedges.
